Meerut: Meerut is set to present itself as an emerging hub for sports education, training and modern sporting infrastructure at the fourth Uttar Pradesh International Trade Show (UPITS), scheduled to be held at Greater Noida from September 25 to 29.
For the first time, the state Sports Department is setting up a dedicated pavilion at the trade show to showcase Uttar Pradesh’s achievements, infrastructure and future plans in the sports sector. Spread over around 200 square metres, the pavilion will feature Meerut’s Sports University as one of its key attractions.
The Sports Directorate, Regional Development Team and Youth Welfare Department, sports colleges and the Sports University will jointly participate in the pavilion. Digital displays, models, videos and other interactive formats will highlight developments in the state’s sports ecosystem.
Visitors will be introduced to the courses, admission process, eligibility criteria and academic activities of the Sports University in Meerut. The pavilion will also feature three-dimensional models of major sports projects in Meerut, Ayodhya, Gorakhpur, Varanasi and Kanpur. A documentary on the state’s expanding sports infrastructure will also be screened.
Achievements of Uttar Pradesh athletes at national and international levels will be showcased through photographs, videos and digital screens.
An interactive gaming zone is also being planned, allowing visitors to participate in digital games based on football, hockey, table tennis and another sport. Participants with strong performances will receive small prizes.
The pavilion will additionally focus on fitness, discipline and healthy lifestyles, while demonstrating the potential use of artificial intelligence in sports and the digital management of athletes’ performance data.
Youth Welfare Department activities, including those of Yuvak Mangal Dal and Mahila Mangal Dal, along with their achievements and awards, will also be highlighted.
Sports Department Special Secretary Vineet Kumar said efforts were being made to provide better opportunities to athletes through sports schools, sports universities, sports hostels and high-performance centres, with a focus on identifying talent from rural areas and providing facilities for national and international competition.
